Lime Rock Park is one of North America’s classic road courses: a short, 1.53-mile (2.46 km), seven-turn natural-terrain circuit that has remained largely unchanged since opening in 1957. It looks simple on paper, but it’s one of the most technical tracks to master because almost every corner flows into the next, and small mistakes cost speed all the way down the following straight. High average speeds, constant elevation changes, and narrow racing lines mean there’s very little time to recover from an error.

The key to a fast lap

The biggest mistake new drivers make is attacking every corner individually. Fast drivers think in terms of corner sequences.

At Lime Rock, three principles matter more than anything else:

• Prioritize exit speed over entry speed.
• Minimize unnecessary steering input.
• Keep the car balanced—sudden braking or throttle application costs more time than at many tracks.
