Description
To master USA International Speedway in the iRacing Late Model Stock Car (LMSC), you need to conquer a fast, sweeping 0.75-mile oval that behaves completely differently than a short track like Bristol. Because the LMSC relies heavily on mechanical grip and has a relatively heavy chassis, the secret to speed here is maximizing corner rolling speed and protecting your right-front tire from wearing out.
-
- The Entry: Keep the car high, just a few feet off the outside wall on the straightaways. Arc the entry wide to make the corner as long and gentle as possible.
- The Apex: Turn down smoothly and let the car float down to a late apex in the middle of the corner. You want your left-side tires to hook the bottom groove right as you begin to see the exit of the turn.
- The Exit: Let the car wash all the way back out to the outside wall. Do not pinch the car down on exit, or you will cause the rear tires to spin and overheat.
-
- Trail-Braking is Essential: Drag the brakes lightly (5% to 15% pressure) all the way from your lift point down to the apex. This keeps the nose pointed down, loading the front tires to help the car rotate through the long, sweeping corners.
- The Maintenance Throttle: Never completely coast. Once you reach the apex and release the brake, immediately apply a 20% to 30% “maintenance” throttle. This keeps the chassis settled and balanced before you commit to accelerating.
- Progressive Exit: Only squeeze to 100% full throttle when you are past the apex and actively unwinding the steering wheel toward the straightaway wall.
-
- Turns 1 & 2: This end of the track features a slightly wider entry. You can drive a bit deeper into Turn 1, use heavy trail-braking to cut the nose down, and get on the throttle early to scream down the long backstretch.
- Turns 3 & 4: The entry into Turn 3 feels tighter and blind. Back up your entry here—lift earlier than you did in Turn 1. If you rush into Turn 3 too fast, the car will wash completely up the track into the middle groove, ruining your exit speed onto the frontstretch.
- If you turn the steering wheel too aggressively mid-corner while the car is pushing, you will “plow” the front tires. This cooks the right-front tire, making the car severely tight for the rest of the run.
- If the car feels tight, lift earlier and use more brake drag to force rotation rather than cranking more steering angle.
Race Setup
A balanced, race-ready LMSC setup built for versatility, predictable rotation, and strong forward drive across multiple racing grooves.
The race setup is designed and taken into account for the fact that USA International Speedway is a precision track. The car must stay perfectly balanced, perfectly straight, and perfectly planted. The teams that win here build setups that minimize drag, maximize platform stability, and give the driver confidence to attack the tricky bumps in the surface.
Qualifying Setup
A faster, more aggressive setup designed to maximize the grip of the newly paved surface and deliver the rotation, responsiveness, and single-lap speed needed for qualifying.
